Today DAC announced that Dr Belle Wei of San Jose State University (SJSU) will be awarded the 13th annual Marie R. Pistilli Women in Electronic Design Automation Achievement Award. It will actually be awarded at DAC on Monday June 4th at the DAC pavilion (otherwise known as booth 310) at 4.30pm where she will be interviewed by Daya Nadamuni of Gary Smith EDA. Belle's official title is the catchy "Don Beall Dean of the Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering at San José State University". In fact she is the first endowed dean at the SJSU college of engineering, appointed in 2002 to lead the college which is dedicated to educating engineers to be equipped for attacking tomorrow's challenges.Whe was reappointed to a second six-year term in 2009.
Dr Wei began her career at SJSU as an assistant professor in the electrical engineering department in 1987, following an engineering MS from Harvard and a EE PhD from Berkeley specializing in VLSI circuit theory, special architectures and sensor networks. Then she moved, but not very far, to a Stanford visiting associate professorship in 1998. In 2002 she moved back from Palo Alto to San Jose and accepted her crrent position as Dean.
