LOUISVILLE, Colo. -- September 30, 2011 -- The Design Automation Conference (DAC), the premier conference devoted to design and design automation of electronic systems (EDA), is seeking submissions that deal with tools, algorithms, EDA tool usage and design technologies for all aspects of electronic circuit, system, and embedded system and software (ESS), for DAC 2012. DAC 2012 also invites participation in various other EDA-related categories. This includes user track submissions, wild and crazy ideas (WACI) submissions, special session, panel and tutorial proposals and co-located events. The 49th DAC will be held at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, California, from June 3-7, 2012.
At DAC 2011, over 33% of relevant technical content was ESS-related, and DAC 2012 is...
IEEE Approves New Revision of Property Specification Language Standard Supports Cross-Language Properties for Verilog and Other Design Systems PISCATAWAY, N.J., USA, 20 April 2010 -- The IEEE has approved a new revision of the IEEE 1850™, "Standard for PSL: Property Specification Language." The standard provides a language for formal specification of electronic system behavior. The new revision refines the standard, addresses errata and technical issues, and adds extensions related to property reuse and improved simulation usability. The Property Specification Language standard eases the burden of electronic design verification by letting designers capture design intent and functional specs with more confidence so that they can save downstream verification time, effort and cost...
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., March 15, 2011—Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNPS), a world leader in software and IP for semiconductor design, verification and manufacturing, today announced that Amlogic, a leading fabless supplier of video, audio and image processing chips, has selected Synopsys’ CustomSim™ solution for mixed-signal verification of its high-performance multimedia system-on-chips (SoCs). Using CustomSim and VCS®, Amlogic observed a 5X improvement in verification throughput compared with competitive solutions, helping to reduce the typical SoC verification cycle from five days to 21 hours.
“Amlogic’s new AML8726-M multimedia SoC combines our proprietary HD multimedia processing engine with ARM® Cortex™-A9 MPCore CPU and Mali™-400MP GPU cores, setting a new standard for high-...
For many people, going to DAC is like going to a High School Reunion. There are many familiar faces you can't quite put a name to, and other faces belonging to perfect strangers who call you by name and seem to know who you are. Of course, there are also lots of good friends at DAC whose names and faces you do remember – and that's the best! The other reason DAC's like a High School Reunion? Every year, the population seems to get older, with more people in the "Aging Demographic" bucket ...************************************ House of Glues ...Although the 2010 DenaliCadence Party was held at the House of Blues on June 14th at this year's Design Automation Conference in Anaheim, DAC 2010 wasn't really about The Blues.Instead...

GRENOBLE – It's never too early to get prepared for the Design Automation Conference, taking place from June 5 to 10 in San Diego, Calif. A discussion with Leon Stok, general chair of the 48th DAC, and Patrick Goreneveld, the upcoming chair for DAC 2012, outlined new initiatives to break barriers and encourage an open and constructive dialog between designers, researchers, EDA tool developers and vendors.
"Last year, I started looking at different angles and started with a few questions: What is the meaning of a conference? What can we do for DAC to become more of a meeting place? How do we bring more users on the floor? How do we expand to IP block providers and foundries?" declared Leon Stok, vice president of IBM's...
Yes, you heard it right: Steve Wozniak will be keynoting at DAC 2011, bringing his joie de vivre and general engineering good cheer to the Electronic Design Automation community.Of course, that's not the only reason to come to San Diego from June 5th to 10th. You'll mainly want to come for the opportunity to learn, which won't be hard to do, according to DAC 2011 Vice Chair Patrick Groeneveld, who also serves as DAC Finance Chair and Principal Engineer at Magma Design Automation – not necessarily in that order.Patrick and I chatted at DATE 2011 in Grenoble, where we were both manning booths in the Exhibition Space – for Patrick, the DAC booth, and for me, the EDA Confidential booth. When I stepped across the aisle from my booth to the DAC booth,...
LOUISVILLE, Colo. –– May 24, 2011 –– At the 48th Design Automation Conference (DAC), the premier conference devoted to design and design automation of electronic systems a full one-third of the technical program addresses embedded systems and software. DAC’s embedded theme is reflected in a dedicated Embedded System and Software (ESS) Executive Day, embedded theater teardowns and presentations, a zone for ESS vendors on the exhibit floor, panels, special sessions, User Track presentations, keynotes, tutorials, and workshops. DAC 2011 will be held at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California, from June 5-10, 2011.
“Our focus on ESS this year reflects the growth in system-level design and implementation,” said Leon Stok, General Chair for DAC 2011. "A...
DAC 2011 – The Feel Good DAC
DAC is back, EE Times is back, the EDA forecast is up and we have made
the transition to ESL design. It was a great DAC. It was almost as if
the last decade hadn’t happened.
Yes we survived!
My Sunday Night Talk
I don’t usually review my own talks but it looks like I hit a nerve this
DAC. For those that didn’t attend DAC I followed up on a talk Lucio
Lanza made at IC CAD last year on the Responsibilities of EDA.
I showed the ITRS Cost Chart with two lines added. The first line was
at $25 million, below that point VCs will start funding Semiconductor
Start-Ups. The second line was at $50 million above that line even IDMs
start cutting back on new SoC designs (See Figure 1).
Figure 1: ITRS 2010 Cost Chart
The bottom line is:
• EDA is...
Steve Wozniak will always be known as one of the Steves who founded Apple (AAPL). And
there is no question he was a key force in shaping the company that
played a major role in shaping the personal computer revolution and
Silicon Valley itself. But he is a Renaissance geek, a guy who's
sponsored rock festivals, taught fifth-graders and supported the Silicon
Valley ballet, the Children's Discovery Museum and any number of valley
causes.Though Silicon Valley is still home, Wozniak is currently
the chief scientist for Fusion-io, a Salt Lake City-based storage
company that went public last week. I sat down with Wozniak
recently for a conversation in front of about 800 attendees at the
Design Automation Conference (DAC 2011), an annual gathering that brings
together engineers and...
YES, I will be wearing my Signature White Jacket!
Every year around this time I start to hear the grumbling about DAC…No one wants to go to (fill in the City, other than San Francisco); or no one goes, it is a waste of time; or is Mark going to wear his White Sport Coat again; (OK I made that one up).
HOWEVER, AFTER DAC, the comments are mostly, (and I do mean mostly) very
positive…we had a good show; the people we wanted to see were there;
got a few really good leads; had a few really promising presentations;
Mark looked really great in his White Sport Jacket again (OK, I made
that one up also), but you get the idea.
So please tell me why the heck this happens over and over every year.
Everyone knows that if you’re not getting customer visits at DAC, then
